January 2021 saw the commencement on site of conversion of former Victorian Sunday School building in Rawdon, Leeds into the headquarters for a commercial client. The tall single storey main hall will be restored to provide an open-plan office with new heating, LED lighting, data systems and taking full advantage of the tall lancet windows. The existing ancillary spaces will be fitted out as toilets, staff rest room/canteen, stockrooms and individual offices. All original features of this Grade II Listed building are being retained which includes a grand stone staircase, exposed principle roof trusses, hardwood floors and panelled doors.
The original diamond leaded lancet windows have been slowly damaged and lost over the years but new sealed double glazed units matching the original style are now being installed including the large rose window in the west end gable. The west porch is being restored to prominence and an original doorway reopened and glazed to provide an attractive entrance. Phase 2 of the project will include a part mezzanine floor over the main office area served by a feature spiral staircase. Our client will be moving into these premises in May 2021.
